Evaluations of High Quality, Multichannel Audio Codecs Carried out on Behalf of Iso/iec Mpeg

BBC R&D has been conducting audio tests for and on behalf of ISO/IEC MPEG since 1973. This report summarises the more important of those tests and the methods used for the assessments. Systems tested include MPEG-2 Layers II and III, as well as the more recent Non-Backwards Compatible codecs. It is reported that the optimisation is still in progress.
